Concept Art:

Mining in New Zealand:

My name is Cody Rapley, I'm a graphic artist; one of the things I do is concept art.

In the film and game industries the concept artist is the one who knows what the final product
will look like before anyone else, it's a big responsibility.

This is a piece I have created to visualise the mining issues that are currently being talked about in New Zealand.

Why?

I am not taking sides on the
issues, for me it is purely about
bringing them to light, producing
something tangible so that people
can decide for themselves.

Releasing it into the wild and trying to evoke a response, seeing people's reaction to it.

How?

I use photographs and merge them together to create a seamless piece of art, a single concept art can use upwards of 50 photographs merged, cut and altered to create something entirely new.

This is just one example of concept art, I am producing a range of works themed on issues both in Hawke's Bay and New Zealand. All will be exhibited at our blue exhibition from the 5th June 2010.

Te Awanga / Haumoana:

This depicts my vision of possible devastation that could be caused from a large storm surge due to unchecked coastal erosion in Hawkes Bay. For more information visit Save the Cape.

This is a piece I have created to visualise the coastal erosion issues that are happening on the Hawkes Bay Coast, in areas such as Te Awanga and Haumoana.

One Thousand & Eighty Birds:

The use of 1080 Poison has a dramatic effect on the native Bird life of New Zealand, whole forests
go silent after a aerial drop of the poison, which not only kills the first bird that ingests it,
but anything else that comes along, countless dogs, cattle and horses have been killed by this
poison.
Just one gram of the poison can kill a grown person, yet often trampers find the distinctive green
pellets scattered around tramping huts and in recreational areas where children and dog's go.

This is a piece I have created to visualise the 1080 poison debate that is being talked about in New Zealand.
